A Chance Encounter: Warm Shoes for a Cold Winter

For weeks on my way to work, I would see a young man panhandling at the corner of Main and Church Street in the downtown Brampton area. When I got home, I loaded up a bunch of different size shoes in my truck, and I promised myself if I see this gentleman again, I will ask him if he wants a pair of shoes.

After doing this, I never saw him again at that location, and I stopped looking out for him.

As luck would have it, towards the end of summer, I was driving along Queen Street before reaching Kennedy Road, and I saw him. I pulled over and said to him I notice that you are wearing a pair of sandals and its going to be cold soon.

“Would you like a pair of shoes?” I asked.

He said “yea”. It was a simple interaction, but one that hopefully made a difference as the seasons changed.
